After that we laid Alfons down in the guestroom and sent for the doctor
as a precaution before this man began his journey home again. The
doctor was there quickly. After his thorough examination he could not
but conclude that everything was just fine.
When the doctor had gone, Alfons sat down at the table again and
drank a cup of tea with whisky. His face was still clearly bearing the
traces of death.
