Sword-Bishop – His Personal Development

wrestling. One day, the SAVIOUR said to him that he should marry.
This was like a hammer blow for him because he thought that GOD
could no longer use him as an instrument. But GOD wanted him to be-
come acquainted with fatherhood for the purpose of his future task and
          many more things.

«This call of the SAVIOUR came to me so surprisingly and drastically
that I said to Him: „SAVIOUR, if this is indeed Your wish, let the first
person who will meet me say the same to me.“ Then, as I was going
down to the lower floor, my mother met me and said to me:
“Nikolaus, you should definitely get married, because you are not
          taking care of yourself!“»

As a result, he placed an ad in a religious magazine and then con-
          fidently left it to GOD.

And so, in 1965, his wedding to Paula Bodenmann from Valais took
place. This marriage brought forth four children: Thomas, Andreas,
Markus and Matthias. Those were the ways of GOD! Never (due to
GOD’s working) had there been one angry or even the least
contempuous word exchanged between the spouses. But the reason
why GOD wanted him to marry will be apparent later on. GOD
Himself wanted this marriage to be marked by a deep love without ever
any gloominess. In this way the sacrifice, which GOD would once
demand from him and his wife and children, was meant to become all
the greater. This deep, pure and unclouded marriage of love was
GOD’s way. One cannot but acknowledge this considering the difficult
trials they had to undergo in this period. Insiders would often say to
them: «Unbelievable that you can still believe in GOD, for what you go
through is strong reason to doubt GOD», and so on. Had he soon
(through GOD’s dispensation) climbed the ladder at work to the po-
sition of manager (without any vocational training), he was then fired –
due to intrigue and slander or because of his religious attitude – and in
order to provide for his family of six, he often had to do the lowest
unskilled work, and quite often far away from his beloved family.

That is how his whole life was marked: sometimes high and then total
depth. It was the most magnificent school of the SAVIOUR on the Cross!
Outsiders had absolutely no knowledge of this. One never heard a
